Underexposed features work representing a cross-section of unknown, emerging, mid career and established photographers in the Southern California Region. There is a meditative quality to much of the work, punctuated by thoughtful documentation and quiet sensitivity. The camera isolates “the experience” in ways that boil it down to a fine concentrate and indeed prolong what would otherwise by momentary. it eliminates the peripheral in ways that leave us free to establish our own unique parameters for context, sometimes guided solely by the mood imparted by the subject matter. The art lies not only in capturing that mood, but also in creating a sense of resonance with the viewer. In the truest sense, the camera is metaphorically a “Time Machine” and in the right hands, provides us with images that transform, entertain, enlighten, disturb and amuse.
